Earth's Changing Seasons

Officially the September equinox arrived yesterday at 5:05 a.m. The September equinox brings Autumn for us in the Northern Hemisphere and Spring for those in the Southern Hemisphere. The word "equinox" literally means "equal night," coming from the Latin words "aequus" (equal) and "nox" (night). This is when the Sun passes the Celestial equator going south, an actual "moment in time."

In our area, there are faint hints of the changing season with the leaves just beginning to turn. NASA Aqua Satellite has some interesting photos of Autumn foliage seen from space.

The tall, stately tree in the photo to the left is the 200+ year old White Oak that lives across the street from us. It's becoming beautiful all over again with the turning colors.

    That is a beautiful shot of that wonderful old tree. I love the angle you used! Trees are truly one of God's finest creations! : ) Our Autumn is well under way, even though the calendar is just now saying Autumn is here. It seems as though once the colors start changing, things go really fast. Thanks for stopping by my blog. It was great to hear from you! I'm off tomorrow, so hoping to get some art time in.
